Women, Education and Financial Freedom

Time Magazine’s recent article on “The Richer Sex,” states that women are set to overtake men as America’s breadwinners, BusinessWeek announced an increase in stay-at-home Dads, and The Huffington Post reported that women now comprise a majority of the workforce.

While more of us are taking control of our finances, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done for women’s equality and personal freedoms globally.

According to research by labor economists Claudia Goldin and Lawrence Katz, there is a 40% wage gap between men and women. In addition, approximately 25 million female Americans currently live below the poverty line per the latest, U.S. Census data.

And more important, females in rural areas face some of the highest rates of educational poverty in the world. “About 80 percent of the 67 million children out of school live in rural areas, the majority of whom are girls,” per The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Many of you have an education, a job and are happy living at the status quo. Others of you are struggling to keep food on the table and pay your bills. Even worse, the women in global, rural areas who have no access to education or information are just trying to survive on a daily basis.
No matter where you are in life, it’s important to strive for more.

This includes maintaining a positive attitude, getting the information necessary to improve your situation and sharing what you learn with others.
And I realize many of you are worried about your financial future.
Don’t give up. There is no reason you need to stay where you are now.
I know things can get very depressing and scary. When I had nothing and lived in my car for several weeks, it was one of the worst times in my life. But I didn’t make excuses. Instead, I used the negative things happening as a driving force to make positive changes happen as quickly as possible.
I didn’t rely on others.
I didn’t focus on the past.
I moved forward.
Stop Making Excuses and Take Action.

Think about it. If you are at the bottom financially, you have nowhere to go but up. But if you continue to feel sorry for yourself, hope that others will support you or just wait for something to happen, you’re going to be waiting a long time for positive changes, if they happen at all.
Anyone Can Pursue Financial Freedom.

Change starts with the way you think. Have you given up, or do you have goals? What do you want to accomplish in life?

It’s time to become stronger and demand more out of yourself and your life. Look at the Triple-A Triangle™ of Aspire, Acquire and Apply – Aspire to have the best life possible, get the information you need to make your goals a reality and then take action on that information.
It’s three steps anyone can take to start a journey to financial freedom.

Face it. No one wants to hear about your money problems, lack of time, medical issues, bad decisions you’ve made in the past, etc. If you really want to have a better life and be financially-free, figure out how to make it happen.

No one is going to do it for you, and a financial education is available if you look for it. For inspiration, read about other women who had nothing, rose above it and are now financially-free like Rowena R. and Stacey B.

And it’s not only about improving your life. It’s about changing the lives of other women too. After all, there are still gender-equality problems that need to be resolved, and women are struggling for personal freedoms globally.

If you want your life to get better, change your mindset and take action. Then, share what you learn with others. Send a link with some valuable information to a friend. Ship a book overseas to a rural area. Start a support group. Be creative.
